Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how SpeedTests.in ("SpeedTests", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our website and internet speed-testing tools (collectively, the "Service"). We built SpeedTests.in to be fast, useful, and privacy-respecting: we collect only what a speed test needs to work and to show you meaningful results. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Summary (the short version)

  • We do not require you to create an account or give us your name.
  • A speed test necessarily processes your IP address and network characteristics to measure and display results.
  • We show your ISP and an approximate location derived from your IP. Precise location is used only if you explicitly grant browser permission.
  • Measurement traffic is served by third-party infrastructure (e.g., Cloudflare) so results reflect your real connection.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

2. Information We Collect

When you run a test or browse the Service, the following may be collected or processed:

  • Network & connection data: your IP address, Internet Service Provider (ISP) name, autonomous system number (ASN), connection type, and the technical results of your test (download and upload throughput, latency/ping, jitter, and derived quality scores).
  • Approximate location: a general region (such as city, state, and country) inferred from your IP address. This is an estimate and may be inaccurate.
  • Precise location (optional): if — and only if — you grant your browser's location permission, we use your device's coordinates to display a more accurate city name. You can decline, and the Service still works.
  • Device & browser data: browser type and version, operating system, screen and viewport size, language, and similar technical details needed to render and run the test.
  • Usage data: pages viewed, the activity profile you select (e.g., Gaming, Streaming), timestamps, and interaction events used to operate and improve the Service.
  • Local device storage: we store small preferences (such as your last-selected activity) in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device.

3. How We Use Information

  • To perform speed tests and calculate and display your results.
  • To show contextual details such as your ISP, approximate location, and per-activity experience scores.
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service and diagnose technical issues.
  • To produce aggregate, non-identifying statistics about network performance and Service usage.
  • To detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, or security incidents.

4. Cookies & Similar Technologies

The Service uses minimal browser storage. We rely on local storage for functional preferences and may use cache-related mechanisms for performance. We do not use advertising cookies. Any analytics we may add will be disclosed here and configured to minimize personal data. You can clear this storage at any time through your browser settings.

5. Third-Party Services

To measure your true connection speed and enrich results, the Service sends requests to independent third parties. When your browser contacts them, they necessarily receive your IP address and standard request information, and their own privacy policies apply:

  • Cloudflare — provides the high-capacity, globally distributed endpoints used to measure download and upload throughput and latency.
  • IP intelligence providers (e.g., ipwho.is) — used to look up your ISP, ASN, and approximate location from your IP address.
  • Reverse-geocoding providers (e.g., BigDataCloud) — used, only after you grant location permission, to translate coordinates into a city name.
  • Google Fonts — used to load the site's typography.

We do not control these providers and are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review their policies.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in these limited cases:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf to run the Service (such as hosting and the measurement/lookup providers listed above).
  • Legal reasons — to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of users or the public.
  • Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

7. Data Retention

Test results are generated and displayed in your browser. Where we or our providers retain technical logs (for example, for security or aggregate statistics), we keep them only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, after which they are deleted or de-identified.

8. Your Choices & Rights

  • Location: you can allow or deny precise location at any time from your browser; denying it does not stop you from testing.
  • Local storage: you can clear stored preferences via your browser at any time.
  • Access, correction, deletion: depending on your jurisdiction (for example, under the GDPR or applicable Indian data-protection law), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to make a request.
  • Do Not Track: the Service does not respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals, but we already limit tracking as described here.

9. Security

The Service is served over encrypted HTTPS connections, and measurement endpoints use TLS. While we take reasonable measures to protect information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International Data Transfers

Because the Service and its providers operate globally, information may be processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.

13. Contact Us

If you have questions or requests regarding this Policy or your data, contact us at privacy@speedtests.in.
